Ceramic coating for Sheffield drivers: why it matters and why I do it at my Glapwell unit

3 October 2026 · 4 min read · Joshua

I run Washy Luxe Limited from a unit at 8 Blacksmiths Close, Glapwell, and I do the work myself. This post covers what a ceramic coating does, why I only apply it at the unit, and what Sheffield drivers should know before they book. The short version is on the ceramic coating page.

Why ceramic coatings matter

A ceramic coating is a hydrophobic layer on clean paint. Water beads up and sheets off, taking loose dirt with it. Grime sticks less, salt and road film release more easily, and washing is quicker and gentler. Gentler matters, because most swirls come from washing a dirty car.

A coating does not make a car scratch-proof, stone-chip-proof or wash-free. It changes how dirt behaves on the surface, and the car still needs a proper wash.

Winter is where it earns its keep. Road salt, grit and a greasy film of road dirt sit on unprotected paint for weeks. I wrote more about that in Winter Protection in Chesterfield.

What I offer

  • Paint Enhancement, from £320: a machine polish plus a 1-year ceramic.
  • Winter Protection, from £380: decontamination, enhancement and a 2-year Labocosmetica ceramic.
  • Paint correction, quoted from £350: I inspect the car at Glapwell first, because the hours depend on the paint.

These are guide prices from my booking diary. A booking or an email gets you a firm figure.

Why ceramic is unit only

Preparing paint and applying a coating needs still air, controlled light and time to cure. A driveway cannot give me that, so ceramic, polishing, paint correction and Winter Protection are done at the Glapwell unit and never at your address. Valets and washes can still come to you, and I cover Sheffield for those: see mobile car valeting in Sheffield.

Why Sheffield drivers choose to drive to Glapwell

  • It is just me. The person you speak to is the person who works on your car.
  • I will tell you if paint correction would not make a visible difference, rather than selling you spend you do not need. The Google profile shows 5.0 from 70 reviews, and you can read our reviews on Google.
  • You drop the car off by booking, so the work gets a clean, controlled space and the time it needs.
  • The drive from Sheffield typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, and longer at rush hour. The unit is near junction 29 of the M1.

Where I trained

I trained with Jack, Andy and Liam at UBV in Liverpool on their 10k Guarantee course, and I rate them as the best in the industry. That is my own opinion.

How to book
