Paint correction quotes explained — this panel is why there is no menu price

This close-up is BMW paint being worked — wax and hand pressure on a panel, the kind of picture that looks like nothing until you have stood over a wing for forty minutes. Paint correction is the service people want a number for in the first message. On the booking site it starts from £350 and is still a quote, because the hours are the product. A single-stage enhancement on a well-kept silver car can be a day. A multi-stage correction on neglected dark metallic, with holograms in the rear quarter, is not a day — and it can run into the thousands.

Publishing “paint correction £X” would either overcharge the first car or undercook the second. All correction happens at the Glapwell unit, 8 Blacksmiths Close, S44 5NS. It is not mobile. Machine polish needs lighting you can trust and a bay that is not shedding sycamore fluff onto a tack rag. Chesterfield and Sheffield clients drop the car off. Same rule as ceramic coating and Winter Protection.

The 5 Series after. Dark metallic shows everything. This is the result people want a menu price for. The hours that got it here live in the close-up above.

What the quote is measuring

I am looking at the paint as a system, not as a colour. Thickness matters: you cannot cut what is not there, and many modern cars are already thin on the edges from the factory. Previous work matters: a coating applied over dirt, or a rotary polish that left holograms, changes the process. Dark paints show everything. White forgives more. How the car has been washed for five years matters most of all.

  • Single-stage enhancement — refine light swirls, ready for a coating.
  • Two-stage correction — a cutting step then a refining step on busier paint.
  • Heavier work — only where the clearcoat can take it, and only where it is worth it.

Every correction still starts the same way: safe wash, iron and tar decontamination, clay, then inspection under the lights. The machine work is the middle, not the whole. A “quick polish” on a driveway is usually a smear of oils that looks wet for a week and then returns to swirls.

When the honest answer is don’t

Reviews — under Washy Luxe and the old Joshy Washy name — keep circling the same point: I talk people out of work. A 21-year-old daily with a stone-chipped front end and thin clearcoat does not need a three-stage correction. It needs a careful wash, maybe a refinement on the panels that will actually show it, and a conversation about whether the money is better spent on Winter Protection or a coating you can maintain. If the car is going back under supermarket brushes, correction is theatre.

That is why the 5.0 from around 68 reviews holds. The quote is a recommendation, not a trap. Book a unit inspection through the Book button, or email Joshua@washyluxe.co.uk with even daylight photos of the bonnet and a rear quarter — not a flash in a garage — and a note on how the car is washed. It will not replace seeing the paint. It will tell you whether a trip to Glapwell is worth it.

Bare corrected paint is at its best and its most vulnerable. Most clients who go this far should be thinking about a ceramic in the same visit — Paint Enhancement from £320 includes a 1-year coating, because you have already paid for the prep. That is a suggestion with a reason, not a bundle trick. Paint correction is quoted from £350. Winter Protection from £380. Headlights £80. Full valets from £140 remain mobile.

Book the work, not a brochure.

Exterior from £65. Full valet from £140. Unit work from £80 headlights to Winter Protection from £380.
