Handing the car back to the lease company — the valet they actually inspect

This 5 Series is how a car should look when it goes back — wet from the rinse, on a driveway, not a supermarket jet wash the morning they collect it. Audis, BMWs, Mercedes: the inspector has the same list. I posted work like this on @washyluxe because it is the job people book too late. They remember the valet the week the collection email lands. By then the carpets have three years of grit in them, the boot well is a spare-wheel grave, and someone has been “just quickly” jet-washing the paint on the way home from Sainsbury’s.

A lease return is not a Friday spruce. The inspector has a list. They open the boot. They run a hand along the door shuts. They look at the alloys from the back, not the angle you photograph. They notice the film on the inside of the windscreen because they sit in the car. Perfume does not move a single line on that sheet.

What they actually mark you down for

• Boot liner, spare-wheel well and the cubby that held the charging cable.
• Seat runners, ISOFIX gaps and the crumb line under the rear bench.
• Alloys from the inside of the spoke — brake dust the supermarket brush never reached.
• Interior glass, especially the windscreen the driver has stopped seeing.
• Fair wear versus neglect. Stone chips are expected. A cabin that has not been vacuumed since 2024 is not.

I cannot put paint back on a chipped front bumper, and I will not pretend a valet is a body-shop visit. What I can do is make sure the only things on the report are the things that were always going to be on it. That is the difference between a Full Valet from £140 booked as a lease prep, and a 20-minute foam cannon the morning of collection.

Book it before the collection date, not the night before

From Glapwell I cover Chesterfield, Bolsover, Mansfield and across to Sheffield on a mobile slot. The car stays on your drive. You keep the spare key in sight. If the interior has gone beyond crumbs — mould after a wet winter, a dog that lived in the boot, a toddler’s worth of ISOFIX — say so in the notes. That is quoted work, and it needs dry time. Trying to hide it with a tree from the petrol station is how you still fail the sniff test when they open the rear door.

If the paint is swirled from five years of brushes, a lease inspector is not going to pay you back for a correction, and I will tell you that.
